Spotlight on Sophia Lacroix
Born in Haiti and now a celebrated artist in South Florida, Sophia Lacroix’s "Naval Tete" exemplifies her signature hyper-realism. Lacroix's art is inspired by her memories of Haiti and the vibrant culture of South Florida, capturing the essence of human connection and nostalgia. Her work has earned her acclaim, with murals and exhibitions across the region. Lacroix’s ability to blend technical skill with emotional storytelling made her a standout in this year’s exhibition.

A Day of Connection and Advocacy

The Art of Breastfeeding Brunch & Exhibition was more than just an art show. Families enjoyed a delicious brunch catered by Exquisite Catering, participated in raffles for cash and gift prizes, and connected with community partners offering resources for children and families.
The event also featured panel discussions with local experts on breastfeeding and maternal health, as well as presentations from select exhibiting artists. Dr. Nikki Lovell-Smith delivered a powerful presentation based on her dissertation, An Ethnology of the Breastfeeding and Non-Breastfeeding Practices of Black Jamaican Women in the United States, offering insights into cultural practices and breastfeeding equity.
